When teething starts

Most babies get their first tooth between four and seven months, and it is usually a lower front incisor. Swollen gums, extra dribbling and a sudden urge to chew on everything tend to show up a week or two before the tooth itself appears.

Chilling a water filled teether in the fridge for a short while gives cool relief on the gums. Keep them out of the freezer, because a rock hard teether can bruise tender gums rather than settle them. Wash before first use and after every session, and check regularly for splits or leaks.

أسئلة متكررة

When do babies start teething?

Most babies get their first tooth between four and seven months, though some start earlier and some much later. The lower front teeth usually come through first.

Should I put a teether in the freezer?

No. Chill water filled teethers in the fridge instead. A frozen teether becomes too hard and can bruise already sore gums.

How do I clean a teether?

Wash with warm soapy water and rinse well before first use and after each session. Check the pack for whether it can also be sterilised.

When should I replace a teether?

Replace it as soon as you notice splits, cracks or any leaking from a water filled teether, and follow any date guidance on the pack.
